Kill to Die, Die to Kill - Chapter 46 - zaynsunflowers - 징크스 - 밍과 | Jinx (2024)

Chapter Text

Day 313

Another morning, another killing, the same routine. Dan swings his bat with the same precision Seungho slices heads and Nakyum shoots some of his arrows from the distance, keeping his team as safe as possible. Through the last few scavenger hunts, Yoohan found him a very useful baby carrier, thanked for by his and his husband’s arms, and even more by the very amused child that now could lay comfortably on his mother’s chest as Nakyum killed the monsters.

Once they cleared their area, Nakyum held his baby close and kissed his forehead, looking at his husband retrieve his arrows, approaching him and chatting amicably with him. Jaekyung took off his bandages, now full of that darkened blood, as he looked at Dan on the distance, worried. The omega was standing in one spot, holding up his weight on his bat as he panted, clearly tired; normally that would be weird, but on the past few days after the house situation Dan’s state has only gotten worse:

He’s dizzier, getting tired with everything all day, every day, even if he now sleeps more than everyone else, and some mornings he has noticed just how sweet and sour his scent has turned. And that’s not even getting into the weird temperament he has had, getting irritated with everything everyone does.

However, noticing the sudden shaking of his body made his spine shiver, widening his eyes as he tried to approach him, but Dan simply turned around and faced him. His face was full of tears, and he cleaned them off in between soft sobs. Jaekyung approached him, clicking his tongue for a moment. After their kiss in the cabin, their relationship has remained pretty much the same with the only difference that, at the very least, Dan is a little more talkative and doesn’t shun him down at the minor attempt of conversation.

Dan, are you hurt?

I was just… thinking… ―Dan sobbed a little more, looking at the corpse of a woman right under him. ―If she… was afraid when she died… or if she was alone.

The dominant alpha tilted his head in confusion upon his reason: he has known Dan for a while now, he has seen him kill roamers mercilessly before, so why is he so upset upon this corpse that just got added to his long list?

Daehyun approached them curiously, looking at Dan cry and then at the body on the floor. Dan covered his face and turned around to not be seen by them, ashamed of not even understanding what he is even crying about. Jaekyung frowned, pushing Daehyun away from the scene and doing the same when he noticed Yoohan was approaching.

Not your business, kid, back off.

We’re literally the same age, why are you calling me a kid? ―he grunted before looking at Dan. ―What is his problem?

It’s none of your business. ―Jaekyung repeated himself, throwing him back as he looked over his shoulder towards Dan, who’s still sobbing silently.

Yoohan raised an eyebrow, standing straight on his spot as he looked over at the rest of the team as they cleaned up their weapons before continuing on the road: for how long does he have to tag along before Yoon Jay shows up?

Nakyum sighed, shaking his head and passing his baby to his husband, ready to go over there and help his friend. As soon as he was with him, his soft hands patted him in the back, trying to help him reincorporate.

Dan, what’s wrong? Are you hurt?

N-no, I just… I don’t understand why I’m crying, I was perfectly fine… and now I…

Hey, that’s perfectly normal. We’re tired, hungry, pretty stressed too… ―he smiled, patting him on the shoulder. ―Maybe once we’ve rested you’ll be good.

Do you think she rested? ―he cried out, looking at the corpse.

I’m sure she did, don’t worry… Now you’ve helped her rest more. ―Nakyum nodded, cleaning up his tears. ―Do you feel ready to go back?

Dan nodded softly, sniffing a little more before heading back to the group, still weirded out about this sudden outburst. Yoohan rolled his eyes, and both Daehyun and Potato simply looked at each other. Jaekyung raised an eyebrow, but he’s unable to shake off that uneasy feeling over his body upon seeing Dan cry and not feeling able to even get close to do something about it.

[…]

That night, surrounded by a light mist from those humid fall days, the team prepared to set up their camp in this small prairie. They’re close to the main city in Jeungpyeong, so before they arrived there they decided to camp for the night and rest a little. It’s a rural area mostly, and roamers are well spaced out in comparison to the cities and bigger towns, so they’d rather do that tonight instead of fighting.

While Jaekyung scouted the area, the betas and Heesung were setting up the fire pit; the parents, in the meantime, were resting as they laid their son in the most comfortable place possible considering they’re on the floor like usual when they travel through the woods.

Dan finished preparing his sleeping spot, tired after a long day of traveling and still a little ashamed of having kissed Jaekyung just days ago and the crying meltdown he had later that day because the leaves were falling a little too fast to his liking, so he’d rather stay quiet and in his spot for the moment.

He kissed Jaekyung. He can still feel his warm lips on his own even days after the fact, and that’s all he can think every night before he goes to sleep, and the worst part perhaps is that he liked it. Why is his mind playing tricks like this?

But then again, if he recalls correctly, Jaekyung kissed him first. Why? Why is he doing all that when he knows he’s broken? Why are his feelings not dissipating away by this wall he put between them? Any normal alpha wouldn’t think twice and turn away upon the sight of an infertile omega like him, yet he still kissed him.

Conflicted, Dan hugged his knees, his mind circling around those same thoughts over and over again as the pressure on his chest expanded, not really understanding why he did that or if he should ask him about. A frown took over his face, knowing he never had to question himself like this before regarding the issue: he should just forget about it, blame the pheromones.

Nakyum yawned, looking at his son rocking himself on his spot but now a little less enthusiastic about it, as in the previous days he’d only been doing that for a couple of minutes before stopping and then asking for arms, so he’ll just wait until he feels ready to do it. He laid down on the blanket, facing now his husband as their son kept rocking on his same spot, his usual workout whenever he’s bored.

When we arrive to Busan, I think… ―Seungho started, stopping mid-sentence as he saw his son suddenly rocking himself a little too hard. ―Nakyum, look.

The omega turned over curiously, looking at how close Sanghyun is to roll, and immediately stood up, covering his mouth in excitement. The determined baby gave one last push, finally turning over his belly and raising his head above the ground, surprised to see this perspective without the help from his parents.

Nakyum, upon this, jumped up from his spot, kicking the ground in excitement.

He did it! He finally did it!

The rest of the group turned around, looking at the baby on his belly, and Daehyun simply smiled and clapped.

Would you look at that? It was about time!

Potato approached them once the fire had started and began asking so many questions, and even Yoohan seemed to be impressed by this. Seungho laid down next to Sanghyun, looking at his baby from the ground and shuffled his hair a little as Nakyum did the same, excited like he has never been.

Dan could only observe the small family embrace such a milestone of their baby with pride and joy, and an overwhelming sense of emotions took over his body. He might never experience this personally, but looking at how happy Nakyum was made him happy, and that’s all that matters.

Jaekyung, coming back from his scouting, could see Dan crying silently now with a bright smile on his face, wondering what was that for now.

Day 317

Hiding in a department store at the capital of Jeungpyeong-gun, the team was having a great time using the forgotten furniture to rest properly for the first time in almost three weeks. Dan was deep asleep in one of the beds as the excessive tiredness he felt anytime he opened his eyes basically forced him to lay down when given the chance, something Nakyum followed as well, resting next to his baby on the bed his husband had chosen for them.

Yoohan, in the meantime, was witnessing a spectacle.

While Seungho and Jaekyung scouted the area looking for any potential danger, the other four there that were awake had something important to deal with: Potato’s hair is getting way too long.

Hold it still, hyung. ―the beta complained as he took his knife and guided himself in his own reflection, cutting strand after strand hoping to get back to his old haircut.

I am doing it, it’s just that your head is too big. ―Heesung sighed, holding the mirror in front of the youngest.

Ha! That’s what she said.

Daehyun, shut up.

Why are you even cutting it for? I thought you wanted it to grow out.

Yeah, I got tired of it and it gets too tangled for my liking. I don’t know how Seungho has his hair that long and doesn’t feel the need to cut it off.

One after the other, the strands fell to the floor, creating some type of small carpet around the beta, who didn’t noticed just how crooked the finished result was as he cut off carelessly around what he thought was working.

Hm… Are you sure you don’t need a hand? I think…

No, I’m fine, just trust the process.

Both the alpha and the eldest beta looked at each other with a complicit stare, trying to hold back their laughs as Yoongu kept cutting over and over, finishing after a couple minutes with the most disastrous hairstyle Heesung has seen in all his career, or even his life. Some strands were longer than the others, the cuts were clashing with each other, and let’s not even get started on how the back of his head looked like. Yoohan pursed his lips, not wanting to say anything, and Daehyun was glad Yoongu chose martial arts over hairdressing school.

So? How does it look? ―Potato smiled, proud of his “hair cut”.

It looks amazing! ―Heesung started in a pitched voice, trying so hard not to laugh. ―You’re so talented, but maybe I can give you some touches… ―the alpha offered, hoping he’d let him fix that mess even if it’s discreetly.

Junbeom’s hair looked so much better. ―Daehyun cackled, shaking his head as he tried to not laugh.

But… Junbeom was bald.

Exactly! ―the beta couldn’t hold it back anymore, laughing loudly as he gave a few steps back, falling onto a couch and holding his belly.

Ha! You’re just jealous!

I’d rather grow it out like Seungho than let you touch mine! ―he laughed.

Dan slowly shuffled in his spot, standing up as in his sleepy state he looked over to see what was going on. Nakyum whined in his sleep, covering his son’s ears the best he could as the laughs went louder and Potato just complained. They were making so much noise, interrupting his sleep, and he’s not going to tolerate that. He stretched a little, blinking slowly as he approached them and yawned.

Daehyun was wheezing on the ground as Potato held his mismatched mini bangs, Heesung now moving his hair around trying to see how he can fix this mess. Dan, confused, looked at the beta and then at Heesung.

What happened?

Potato… Potato… ―Daehyun wheezed, incapable of explaining as the laugh interfered.

Potato cut off his hair. ―Heesung sighed, turning Potato around to face Dan as the youngest shyly smiled when his new haircut was on sight.

Dan’s jaw fell to the floor, covering his mouth immediately as the tears filled his eyes. It was horrible, there’s no nice way around it.

Oh my god…

What do you think Dan? ―Yoongu smiled.

What happened to you? ―the omega suddenly started crying, overwhelmed with emotions. ―Your hair looked so nice…

The laughs suddenly stopped when his tears fell down, and they didn’t knew what to do when his sobbing started coming out.

Man, your haircut is so busted it made Dan cry.

Hey, it’s not that bad… ―Yoongu frowned, looking at his hair.

I’ll fix it, hold on…

Heesung, determined, began using his knife to try and fix it, no matter how hard it’ll be. The blonde one made the beta sit down on a chair, using the most of his expertise after years in the spectacle scene. Constantly surrounded by hairdressers and stylists, partnerships should give you some knowledge on this, but he doesn’t have a lot to work with: He’ll have to give him a pixie cut, or whatever was necessary for Dan to stop sobbing like this, as it’s waking up Sanghyun and Nakyum on their beds.

This crying, alongside the distressed pheromones, were accidentally calling out for Jaekyung, who was finishing the scouting next to Seungho on a whole different area of the store. The amber-eyed alpha was a little confused upon the sudden shift in attitude of the dominant one, having to even chase after him when he suddenly went running back to the group, hurrying his pace trying to stop him.

Minutes later, after sprinting the fastest he could, Jaekyung arrived to the furniture section panting in a panic as he expected the worst, but all he saw was Dan sobbing and Heesung trying to fix Potato’s hair.

The blonde alpha finally revealed to Dan the new Potato, sort of. It’s similar to his other hairstyle from before the apocalypse with the twist that Heesung, using his saliva, made a fake curl on his forehead resembling Superman.

Ugh! That’s nasty!

Dan looked at the curl, and for whatever reason it was the funniest thing he had ever seen. Slowly stopping his cries, he let out a giggle, covering his mouth upon that curl that Potato soon enough got rid of, completely sickened out of the alpha’s saliva.

Jaekyung sighed relieved upon seeing that everything was okay, and soon enough the place was filled with Dan’s laughter. Seungho looked over at the dominant alpha, shaking his head as he slapped the back of Jaekyung’s head, heading back to the area he was scouting.

Heesung was relieved that the crying stopped, but now the remaining team was looking at each other completely clueless, wondering what’s going on with Dan and his random mood changes.

[…]

Later

Taking advantage of the closed space they had settled in for the night, the team locked the doors and blocked them using some furniture, sealing any entrances or exits as roamers hung out outside this building, but there’s no way for them to come in. They were safe, and they were all asleep for the first time in weeks where they didn’t needed someone in night guard obligatorily.

Yoongu, waking up in the middle of the night, found himself covered in Heesung’s arms, frowning a little. The alpha was really warm as usual, and although he appreciated his closeness, he really needed to pee. He removed Heesung away softly, raising his eyebrow when he saw him hug the pillow he was using mere seconds away, holding it against his chest.

After shaking his head, Yoongu walked towards the guest restroom, which is a little away from the group as he prepared to pee in one of the toilets, but to his surprise, someone else was here first.

Dan? Is it you? ―Yoongu muttered and raised his lantern, looking at the silhouette as it turned around. ―Phew man, you scared me.

Sorry… everything alright? ―Dan yawned, his eyes still a little shut due to the tiredness.

Yeah, I’m just trying to pee… go back to sleep, need the lamp? ―he asked, extending the lantern to the omega.

No, no. it’s okay… I know the way… ―Dan whispered in a sleepy voice, starting to stumble back to the rest.

Alright then, night. ―Yoongu whispered back, looking at him go back to the beds.

Dan stumbled a little more, being called by such a strong aroma towards one of the beds, just like the other night in the forest. He traveled across the room, ignoring his sleeping spot as he stopped next to Jaekyung’s bed, accidentally waking up the alpha. Already imagining who it was, Jaekyung simply stared at him with narrowed, sleepy eyes, feeling the omega basically throw himself at him, cuddling up almost as if he was gluing himself to his body.

Not that it bothered him, of course, but he already knows what will happen as soon as Dan wakes up in the morning: he’ll frown, get up, then leave and pretend it didn’t happened. The alpha sighed, shaking his head for a moment before holding Dan in his arms, the omega’s tranquil breathing hitting against his neck as he thought about that night they did it in the car, just a day before their heat-rut situation.

He missed that: having him so close, just like this, with the small security that he wouldn’t vanish in the morning. Back in the day, whenever his “dates” disappeared after a one night stand or his pre match ritual, he couldn’t find himself able to care less; but when it comes to Dan, he can’t stand it.

It kills him that he doesn’t even stay on his side until the morning, like it used to be before he said he was infertile and pushed himself away from him. Still holding him close, Jaekyung allowed himself to rest his chin on Dan’s head, looking from this new position at some other team members the slept profoundly, and soon that sweet peony scent got to his senses. He breathed it in, sinking his face on the omega’s hair to get more of it as his eyes closed up, falling asleep in no time and as soothed as the omega in his arms.

Potato stumbled back to his own bed, wanting to rest a little more before the night ended, and surely enough he found the blonde alpha still holding on to his pillow. Shaking his head, the beta walked over to Dan’s bed, wanting to ask him for an extra pillow, but when he got there, any trace of sleep in his system dissipated as soon as he saw it was empty. The youngest gulped, looking around to see if anyone was on guard that night, but it was all quiet besides the few groans and moans in the street.

Frantically looking for the omega, Yoongu began walking faster, checking out under the bed or in any available creak and spot: he feared that, since he has felt dizzy as of late, he could’ve gone outside for some fresh air and gotten in trouble, but first he had to check out this place. He looked around scared, his sight stopping on the dominant alpha’s bed where he saw him cuddling with someone, and curiosity began to get the best of him.

Sneakily, he approached his hyung’s bed, lantern on hand, and carefully illuminated it, finding the fighter’s big arms surrounding Dan; the omega’s face was hidden inside the crook of his neck, and they were practically glued together. His eyes widened, and he immediately turned off the light, running back to his bed.

[…]

By the next morning, when he woke up, Jaekyung saw he was completely alone, once again. He shook his head, narrowing his eyes in the direction of the bed a couple feet away from his own, noticing the omega there, laying down and giving his back at him.

“He’s always leaving.” The alpha thought as he got up from his own bed and approached Dan’s, looking at the omega as he slept peacefully before shaking his head. He sat next to him, looking at him sleep, once again wondering what he’s doing wrong.

Day 318

As they were walking up the hill, Yoohan looked towards the woods. He wondered where Jay was, thinking and waiting for someone here to notice the scent of the alpha. He hasn’t personally smelled it, but according to others he smelled like dark chocolate; being so distinctive, he thought one of the alphas or omegas in the group must’ve gotten it by now, but so far nothing.

Absent minded in his own thoughts, he didn’t noticed the rock in the path, tripping down and accidentally hitting his knee on the ground. The rest of the group looked back at him, Heesung helping him stand back up as Dan looked at him a little worried.

Are you okay? ―he asked, at the verge of tears again.

Yes… ―Yoohan sighed and rolled his eyes, trying to keep his cool as soon as he saw him about to cry… again. ―It’s just a scrape, chill.

You fell pretty hard, are you sure you’re not hurting?

I’m fine, damn it.

Yoohan kept walking, rolling his eyes in annoyance as he kept going. Jaekyung raised his eyebrow upon Dan’s emotional state, looking at Heesung who simply shrugged, as clueless as the rest of the team. He clicked his tongue, looking at the team and then at Dan’s drawn face, something tingling inside him. The sound of water called him in one of his ears, turning over to the origin of it as he sighed. Where there’s water, there must be fish, and his team hasn’t eaten properly in a while.

Let’s try to get some fish.

[…]

Dan sniffed on his candle, laying down on his sleeping spot for the evening. Since they weren’t sure of how long the fishing task would take, the team decided to camp here today. Potato and Jaekyung were the ones to go fishing this time, leaving the leadership to Heesung and Daehyun temporarily as Seungho and Nakyum revolted around their child, inciting him to keep rolling and moving around the blanket.

They knew what this meant thanks to Daehyun: Sanghyun would learn how to crawl soon, and they were excited under the prospect of him growing up, although it was quicker than they even realized. Yoohan was tasked with setting up the fire pit, but he wasn’t entirely amused by the lack of news from his friend.

Dan rolled over in his spot, giving his back to the group so that they wouldn’t see him sniffing on the candle. Not because he was ashamed of it or anything, but he knew how ridiculous it could be to smell something that smells just like your… teammate and the last thing he wanted was to answer any unwarranted questions.

“Why are you smelling a candle?” None of their business. “Why do you like that candle?” None of their business. “Is it because it smells like Jaekyung?” None of their business.

But he liked it. It was soothing, and the best thing around if he wanted to keep his distance, although he wasn’t sure for how long he’d be able to keep it. He looked at the candle attentively, passing it throughout his fingers as the sudden need to pee invaded him. He sighed, putting it away for a moment as he stood up, heading to the forest to hide behind some bushes.

You need help, Yoohan? ―Heesung asked the beta as he saw him struggling to make a fire pit with just sticks.

Do you have a lighter or something? It’d be quicker like that.

I don’t, but I think Dan may have some in his backpack. Let me ask him.

The blonde alpha turned to the spot where he had seen Dan, a little surprised to not find him there. But his bat wasn’t there either, and knowing his pee breaks he must be in the woods. Shrugging it off, he thought Dan wouldn’t mind letting him check his backpack for some lighters.

He knelt on his spot, opening the omega’s bag. He didn’t had a lot in it besides some spare nails, a cloth he had seen him use to clean his bat in previous occasions, but no lighters. “He must’ve lost them back at the bridge.” He thought. However, something else caught his attention, tilting his head in curiosity as he saw the small brown glass cylinder that held a candle, making him giggle.

What did you picked back at the store? ―he muttered to himself, letting curiosity get the best of him as he was about to take it in his hand.

What are you doing with my stuff? ―a sudden peony scent brought Heesung out of his thoughts.

Oh, hey Dan, I was just looking for some…

Why are you looking through my stuff? ―the omega said in a stern voice as he crossed his arms, clearly upset.

I was looking for a lighter, that’s it.

You’re no one to be looking in my backpack if I didn’t let you, this is outrageous, this…

What if you smell your candle? Would that help you relax?

That only made Dan spiral, widening his eyes in a fit as he looked at Heesung straight at his, and the alpha knew he f*cked up.

You were looking at my candle?! Heesung! This is such an invasion of privacy! I can’t believe you’ve done this! Wow! You’re unbelievable! Incredible! Such nasty behavior!

Dan snatched his backpack, walking angrily to the other side of the camp away from the very confused alpha, who simply stood there clueless, looking back at the confused married couple and then at Yoohan, who shrugged and looked at him.

I told you. He’s going crazy.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen him that upset… Not even when you guys did a mess in the cabin… ―Heesung pondered out loud. ―Do you think his heat is close? Nakyum, when you’re about to get your heat, do you…?

Say another word and I’ll slice you up. ―Seungho raised his eyebrow.

My bad. ―Heesung immediately shut up.

Just in time, Jaekyung and Potato came back with some fishes they managed to catch, which wasn’t an easy task at all. Jaekyung was from the city and although Potato grew up in the countryside, his specialty wasn’t fish. Although, the spectacular four fishes they managed to get were enough to distract the group from Dan’s mood swing, turning around. Nakyum approached them and thanked them for the meal, taking the animals to start gutting them for dinner.

[…]

Two hours later, once Nakyum had finished preparing the fish with nothing but fire and good will, the rest of the group sat together to eat or at least start doing it. Dan, quite ashamed of his behavior, approached the blonde alpha, tapping him on the shoulder as Heesung turned around, surprised to see Dan.

Hey, I, uhm, I’m sorry for how I talked to you. I don’t know what came over me.

No hard feelings. ―Heesung grinned, looking at the omega. He knows Dan has been acting pretty out of character as of late, and he’s aware it’s not personal. Not like he was going to take it that way anyway. ―But do you know why you’ve been acting like that?

I… no. ―the omega sighed. ―I don’t know, I just… It’s weird.

You’re feeling dizzy, having these mood swings, you pee a lot… ―he pondered. “Could he be pregnant? … No, Jaekyung told me they always used protection.” Maybe you’re sick or something.

I don’t think so. Wouldn’t you guys be sick as well?

I don’t know, let me check.

Heesung placed a hand on Dan’s forehead, measuring his temperature. He didn’t seem too warm, so perhaps his “heat theory” has gotten discarded, but whatever it is it must be tough for the omega.

You don’t feel warm at all, maybe… I don’t know. You were the doctor, what do you think you have?

I was a physical therapist, not a doctor. I may know the basics, like how to suture wounds or treat them, all that stuff, but internal things? I don’t know.

The alpha hummed in curiosity, placing his hand now on his cheek to check him a little more, trying to get to the bottom of this enigma, when a sudden mahogany scent covered them up, followed by Jaekyung clearing his throat. Heesung coughed a bit due to the sourness of the alpha’s pheromones, covering his nose.

Dinner is ready, what are you waiting for?

Oh, nothing. ―Heesung grinned at the dominant alpha, a little amused over his reaction, but that smile was suddenly lost when he noticed just how quick Dan shuffled out of the situation, going towards the fire pit with the rest. ―Do you have any idea what’s going on with him?

With what?

I don’t know, he’s acting weird since you guys came back after we were separated, did something happen?

That’s none of your business. ―Jaekyung grunted, going back to the team.

Heesung raised his eyebrow, more intrigued than ever, and followed on his steps, sitting next to Potato as he grabbed a piece of fish for himself, looking suspiciously towards Jaekyung and Dan, who are sitting with the married couple in between them. They used to sit together, they used to sleep next to each other, and for the past weeks they haven’t done any of that.

Something must’ve happened between them when they were separated, and although he wanted to trust that Jaekyung could’ve been different from those days before the dead rose up, that small fear that his old self could come back was still lingering around him whenever he saw this apart. What if he did something to him?

His rut was supposed to happen during those days, and he said he miscalculated, but what if he didn’t? Did he forced Dan to help him? Could that be why Dan is trying to keep his distance? Has someone else noticed something off as well? What if he is pregnant? Or what if…?

What are you thinking about? ―Potato asked the alpha curiously, noticing Heesung hasn’t taken a bite.

The alpha shook off his thoughts, returning to his usual grin and then smiled at the beta, shuffling his hair around.

How cute you look with that haircut I gave you.

The beta groaned in annoyance, although that didn’t hid the blush on his cheeks as he kept eating, now in company of the blonde one.

Seungho and Nakyum gave stares to each other, now both capable of eating at the same time thanks to the baby carrier in Seungho’s chest. They have noticed something is off with Dan in the past few weeks, and although they had the same similar suspicion, Seungho doesn’t care as much as Nakyum. Not because he doesn’t respect Dan, he does since the day he saved his life, but those kind of banalities were always Nakyum’s worries, not his.

The mother looked over to Dan, noticing he was eating finally, and simply smiled at him before focusing on eating himself, resting his head on his husband’s shoulder after such a long day.

Dan, in the meantime, was glad to finally eat some food without that dizzying feeling all over his head for once. Perhaps is that he doesn’t feel like Heesung hates him anymore, or maybe it’s that he’s still covered in Jaekyung’s pheromones from minutes ago when he interrupted him and the alpha while they were talking.

Feeling the dominant alpha’s mahogany scent was a relief for him, and that’s what he thought as he ate some of the fish.

“Much better than the candle.”

[…]

In the middle of the night, as the rest of the team was sleeping and Heesung was the one to be on the first shift, he looked at the dominant and recessive of the group, proving correctly that they’re still not sleeping next to each other, although Jaekyung had prepared his sleeping spot that night and Dan didn’t complained like last time.

Still, that doesn’t mean he’ll get his finger off of this, and potentially ask Seungho or Nakyum if they have noticed something as well.

A sudden shuffling in the bedding area caught his attention, turning around abruptly and looking towards the people sleeping, noticing it’s only Dan waking up, presumably for his nightly pee. Shrugging it off, he kept on with life, guarding him from the distance as he saw him get between the bushes with his bat on hand. Not like Dan needed any protection, he’s pretty capable of fighting a grown man by himself, but there’s nothing else to do this late at night.

But the odd noise coming from the bushes made Heesung raise his eyebrow suspiciously, paying close attention to it as he tried to listen better. He got closer, noticing Dan’s silhouette crouching over a tree and holding himself on it as he puked half of his dinner out.

Heesung widened his eyes and immediately returned to his position back in the camp, waiting for Dan to come out: the last thing he wanted to do is catch him off guard with a bat on hand.

Dan came back a couple of minutes later, shaking his head in annoyance as he washed off his mouth with some of the few sips left of his water and taking out his special package of sliced dehydrated apples, that only had one left. Heesung approached him, a little preoccupied, and asked.

Dan, you’re good? I heard you barfing.

Yes, I’m fine… ―the omega munched on the apple slice he had to get rid of the sensation on his mouth. ―It was probably the fish.
